Driven by his faith and love to serve God, Libere is a Burundi native who loves investing in other peoples’ lives. He founded Impact Burundi to address needs in his country. In his free time, Libere enjoys serving his church and spending time with his family.
Chairman of the Board
Peter is a successful and retired businessman from the Grand Rapids, MI area who is passionate about serving vulnerable people locally and internationally. When he's not spending his free time with his family, he's supporting his church and cheering for the underdog.
Dr. Phil Smart is an international development expert with more than 35 years of experience as a missionary, pastor, facilitator, and business manager.
Secretary and Bookkeeper
Deb is an account manager for her husband's excavating company. She loves spending time with her family and loved ones, and she can often be found volunteering at her church and at her local food pantry. Deb carries a profound compassion for those less fortunate than her.
Bev is a long-term overseas development worker with humanitarian efforts and nonprofit organizations. Her health care background impacts her perspectives in the multiple organizations she serves. She misses visiting her Canadian family, especially four precious granddaughters, during Covid restrictions.
Josephine,from Uganda, brings nonprofit experience from several East African countries. She and her husband Jim alternate their time between Uganda where they support eleven foster children and the U.S. Here she works with three schools as a cultural liaison for high school students from Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Elizabeth is a retired educator who has worked in Michigan, Japan and England. Her passion for people has lead her to serve on multiple boards and visit international communities, including Burundi, to celebrate and encourage the wisdom and dignity of local people,
Donna is seasoned spiritual leader within the non-profit and academic sectors, serving as a chaplain within corporate settings, facilitating a grief support group, constantly learning, and always seeding opportunities to bring people of diverse communities together. She is avid about the outdoors and has hiked segments of the Appalachian trail.
