One of the foundations of community building for Impact Burundi and Burundi Development Services is stewardship. Stewardship is a way of seeing the world that recognizes everything in it as a gift from God to be cared for and shared to benefit the lives of others.
In spite of uncertain food security for themselves, community members shared their harvest with patients in a local hospital. Unlike hospitals in the U.S., families of hospitalized patients in Burundi are expected to provide food for their relatives. Typically, a family member will stay at the hospital with their ill relative to provide companionship and prepare food in the hospital kitchen available for that purpose
None of the donors from this village had family members currently in this hospital, but gave fruits and vegetables to be prepared for 232 patients there.
This community knows that everything they have is a gift from God. As grateful and loving stewards, they shared God’s gift with strangers.
A generous and fitting Christmas present!
